Medications (Oral, Patch, Vaginal, Shot)

  • The Pill

    • Combination oral contraceptive (COC) pills

      • These pills contain both estrogen and progesterone of various doses/formulations. While very safe to use in most women, there are certain contraindications to use of these medications including, but not limited to women with increased risk of blood clots, high blood pressure, and breastfeeding. We will review your risk factors and determine if COCs are appropriate for you.

    • Progesterone only pills (POPs)

      • Aka “the mini-pill.” There are two forms of this pill that are appropriate to use in breastfeeding moms and women with other contraindications to estrogen.

  • The Ring

    • There are a few types of vaginal rings inserts that provide effective birth control on a monthly or yearly basis. They contain both estrogen and progesterone.

  • The Patch

    • A transdermal delivery system containing both estrogen and progesterone
